We the People: Edmond group to present ‘My Norwegian Story’

Ruth H. Oneson will present “My Norwegian Story — Voices from the Grave.” Oneson’s great-great-grandmother was Katrina Oneson, born in 1813 in Spind, Norway, and died in 1903 in Ephraim, Door County, Wis. Her presentation will include insights into researching Norwegian genealogy and the mechanics of putting together a graveyard presentation.

Workshops offered
The Cleveland County Genealogical Society will host a two-part series of beginning genealogy workshops on Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons in January and February at the CCGS Genealogy Library, 1119 E Main, Norman.
“Smart Start — Before You Surf the Internet,” will be from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 and from 2 to 5 p.m. Jan. 22. Participants will learn how to organize information obtained about their families and will explore Internet sources to learn more about their family history. In case of inclement weather, snow dates will be Jan. 26 and Jan. 29.
“Second Steps — Finding Grandparents and Their Tracks in Public Records,” will be from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 2 and 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 5. The workshop will discuss courthouse records, cemeteries, newspapers, federal and state census, online sources and other resources. Snow dates will be Feb. 9 and Feb. 12.
Registration fee is $25 for both workshops or $15 for one and is due by Jan. 13. Early registration is suggested due to a limited amount of space.
