NYG&B Elects Two New Fellows: Laura Murphy DeGrazia and …
Individually distinguished as genealogists, Laura Murphy DeGrazia and Karen Mauer Green have added renewed vitality to The Record as Co-Editors. Working together, they have broadened the range of subject and time periods covered, attracted a growing pool of scholars, and maintained the exceptionally high standards for which the 143-year old publication is recognized.
Laura Murphy DeGrazia, CG, FGBS, is a past president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, where she remains a trustee. Her articles and reviews have appeared in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, and other publications. A nationally known speaker and the co-compiler of two books, she is currently writing the New York City guide to genealogical research for the National Genealogical Society guidebook series. She holds a BA from Adelphi University, magna cum laude, where she was a Presidential Scholar, and an MA in Computer Science, with honors, from Hofstra University, where she was a Grumman Aerospace Corporation Masters Fellow. Ms. DeGrazia lives on Long Island.
Karen Mauer Green, CG, FGBS, has been involved in genealogy since 1977; she has written six books, as well as numerous articles, columns, and reviews. In 1982 she founded Frontier Press, a source for genealogical and historical books. She served the Association of Professional Genealogists as board member and regional vice-president, and the Federation of Genealogical Societies as board member, national conference chair, vice-president for administration, and in numerous other capacities. She has organized the 2014 track of New York lectures at the prestigious Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. She has a BS in history with honors and an MA in Museum Studies from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Ms. Green lives in Cooperstown, N.Y.
