Genealogy society to sponsor Civil War program today

COBDEN — The Union County Historical and Genealogy Society will sponsor a program relating to the Civil War Battle of Shiloh at 2 p.m. today at the Union County Museum.

A rare, wood cane made by James Newton Underwood of Union County will be available for view and is part of the Historical So-ciety’s collection.

Daryl Parks of Anna will speak about his family’s role in the War with recollections and stories from family members about hear-ing the sounds from the Shiloh battlefield.

Aaron Lisec, a research specialist at the SIU Morris Library’s Special Collections Research Center, will read excerpts from the li-brary’s collection of Illinois soldiers’ letters written before and after the Battle of Shiloh.

The program is free and refreshments will be served.
