Genealogy Society presents free program in March

TERRE HAUTE — The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will present “Dying to Help Out, Too,” at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 12.

The program, presented by Ron Darrah, will take place in the Vigo County Public Library Rooms A, B and C.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6:30.

The program is free to the public.

During the program, Darrah will describe ways to discover records about deceased ancestors.

Since very few Americans have a probate file after death, one must use other ways to find records, which might provide information about deceased family members.

Darrah, born in West Virginia, but an Indiana residence since 1972, earned his BS degree from Kent State University in 1967.

He is the founding Executive Director of the Genealogical Society of Marion County, Head Librarian for the GSMC, Chairman of the Indiana Genealogical Society affiliate, Society of Civil War Families in Indiana, Patriot Grave Chair and Genealogist/Registrar of the Clarence Cook Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, a genealogical researcher for 20-plus years, and author of several genealogical publications.

He is a former sixth-grade teacher in Cleveland, Ohio.

Until retirement, Darrah was Supervisor of Warehousing for the Indianapolis Public Schools, also having served as Technical Sergeant in the Indiana Air National Guard.
