Upcoming Classes at the OPL Libraries | Greater Omaha

New classes are added all the time. To log into an OPL computer, attendees must have an OPL library card and know their PIN.

Genealogy Work Groups: Join genealogy enthusiasts to work on your personal research and exchange tips with others. Experienced G.O.G.S. helpers will be on hand to offer help as you explore your family roots!

Genealogy: Somewhere in Time. Use old family postcards, letters and photographs to piece together your family’s past. Learn about researching gaps in your family history and creating an accurate family timeline.

Organizing Your Genealogy Research. Having trouble organizing your collection of genealogy materials? Whether you’re just getting started or are returning to genealogy after a few years, experienced genealogist Brenda Boyd will share useful tips on how to organize it all.

Using Land Records. Is your research hitting any walls? You may need to expand your quest to land records. In this presentation, you will learn about the different kinds of land records, and how to prioritize and identify “high-value targets.” Blankenau has solved more brick walls using land records than any other method.

My Ancestor Was an Axe-Murderer: Black Sheep Genealogy. This presentation addresses the skeletons in our ancestors’ closet(s). Research the black sheep in the family, and learn strategies for dealing with living relatives who may not want the stories to be revealed.

Preserving Your Family Treasures. Come listen to Durham Museum curator Carrie Wieners as she provides some tips and tricks to extend the life of your family heirlooms, collections, mementos, and treasures and preserve them for present and future generations. Gain information on how to properly preserve and protect your family’s history. Correct care, handling, and storage of your treasures will help to ensure that they are preserved for generations to come.
Genealogy: Scrapping Your Family History—Donna Thomas.
In these classes you will learn how to scrap your family tree! Some basics on scrap booking will be shared; you can add your own photos. All materials (except the photos) will be provided for free. Bring your favorite tools and supplies; some will be available for use. There will be layout samples for family reunions and other projects. Different class sessions vary in content—see the Library events calendar for details.
