Genealogical lock-in | American Libraries Magazine

Genealogists from all over the country spent a rare evening at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County’s “Lock-In” held at the main branch May 10, part of the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Family History Conference. Presenters included (pictured) Patricia Van Skaik, manager of the library’s Genealogy and Local History Department, speaking on the topic of “Genealogy Buried in a Photograph: Amazing Discoveries in the Cincinnati Panorama of 1848.” NGS is the largest individual membership genealogy society in the United States.  The library was selected for the conference, in part, because its genealogy collection is considered to be in the top five  in the nation, covering all 50 states and more than 20 foreign countries.
