Beyond the Hub: meet other Genealogy Examiners
|When I first started writing for Examiner.com, I envisioned covering not only Boston and Massachusetts but New England and beyond. After all, my column is not just for people who live in and around Boston. It’s also for people from all over the country who have Boston roots. For example, there are millions of Mayflower descendants living today—but very few know it—and they don’t all live in Plymouth or even Massachusetts. But if they discover their Pilgrim connections, whether they live in California or Connecticut, I hope they stumble upon my Boston Genealogy Examiner column and learn a thing or two.
In a recent survey taken in April 2012 by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, 33% live within 100 miles of where their ancestors settled, while 37% live more than 1,000 miles from where their ancestors settled.
When I first joined Examiner.com, there were only a handful of us writing about genealogy—and I don’t think Examiner.com knew what to do with us. You’ll find Genealogy Examiners under different categories and sub-categories, such as general religion, generations, or social issues. That makes it difficult for you to find us. And without readers like you, we don’t have much incentive to write. After all, we like to know we have X number of subscribers and we like getting feedback through comments and emails. It helps to know someone out there is reading our stuff!
So, I figured you probably have ancestors that have led you on a merry chase throughout America (and the world), and you’d like to keep tabs on Genealogy Examiners from those locales too. Below, I’ve compiled a list of Genealogy Examiners who cover different topics and areas that can help you with your research. I followed one criteria in compiling this list: the Genealogy Examiner must have published two articles on Examiner.com in 2012. If you know of other Genealogy Examiners, please let me know! I would love to add more to the list.
If you are interested in becoming a Genealogy Examiner (or writing on any subject, really) for Examiner.com, you can apply online for the topic that most interests you.
