Genealogy events: 2012 new events added to calendar

Thank you, due to the response of readers, the genealogy events calendar will expand. Please continue to send in events and mark this column for the latest news on area events.

2 April 2012 – yes it is passed; the 1940 census unveiling celebration at the National Archives at Atlanta is history. Many researchers attended, waiting to find themselves or their ancestors in the census. Guy Hall was the first to find his father in the Maine census. The music, food, and fellowship made the event unforgettable thanks to the archive staff. Also digressing to 31 March, Shane Bell presented an outstanding program on the privateers during the War of 1812. Shane asked, “Do you know the difference between a privateer and a pirate?” The program centered on original documents in the National Archives at Atlanta. Come in to see the display of ship documents and court cases. The location of the archives is 5780 Jonesboro Rd, Morrow, GA 30260.
